If you saw our latest blog post, you know that we recently adopted a rescue dog named Sadie! We adopted her in March, and the last few months have been BUSY for us, but also so much fun. Since March, Sadie has completed obedience training, learned how to walk on a leash, discovered her love for hiking, and made lots of friends at doggy daycare. She’s our first dog, and as former cat people, we’ve been learning a lot! We’re just starting to dip our toes back into some home improvement projects again.
One thing we’ve noticed about having a pet is that somehow their fur gets everywhere! Sadie has very short hair, like a horse, but man does she shed. When it was just the two of us, we used to vacuum our house once a week. But with Sadie, we’ve stepped it up to a multiple times a week. And to think we once considered adopting a husky (double-coat anyone??).
Don’t get us wrong, Sadie is part of the family, and the extra vacuuming just comes with the territory. But, no one wants to spend hours cleaning every week. Luckily, we don’t anymore! Thanks to modern-day technology, we purchased a robot vacuum to help us out. And seriously, it has been a total game-changer.
Our Eufy RoboVac
After doing a lot of research and comparing different robot vacuums, we landed on the Eufy Robovac 15C Max. Our criteria for a robot vacuum was 1) not too expensive (some are $500+) 2) five-star ratings 3) quiet. The top-of-the-line robot vacuums have a mapping feature to prevent them from vacuuming the same area twice, but this wasn’t important to us. Our only goal was for our robot vacuum to help us keep our house clean, not replace our weekly vacuuming.
With a coupon code from Mallory Nikolaus Home, we bought our Eufy RoboVac for under $200. We run it daily when we take Sadie for walks – she likes to attack it otherwise – and sometimes twice a day. Pete has the Eufy app on his phone, and uses it to start/stop the vacuum, program cleaning times, and get notified of alerts (like if a sensor is dirty, the vacuum gets stuck somewhere, etc). It can run for up to 100 minutes at a time, and then returns to the charging station automatically.
I’m telling you, this robot vacuum is worth EVERY penny! Having the ability to leave the house, hit a button on our phone, and come home to clean floors is amazing. And this thing does a really good job of cleaning. Pete and I are clean-freaks, but somehow the vacuum finds stuff every time. Sometimes we’ll even run it on a day that we’ve vacuumed the house ourselves, and it still comes up with stuff. The picture below shows what it vacuums up pretty much daily:
Basically a handful of dust, fur, and some crumbs. Remnants of every day life with two people and a dog. Before getting our robot vacuum, we felt like we couldn’t keep up with the cleaning. Now we feel so much better about the dog hair situation knowing that our Eufy is vacuuming every day for us!
Pros & Cons
If you’re on the fence about buying a robot vacuum for yourself, consider our list of pros & cons below:
Pro #1 – it cleans for you. Just thinking about all the time we’ve saved ourselves since getting our robot vacuum blows my mind. We aren’t even home when it runs, meaning we get to spend our time doing things we enjoy every day instead of vacuuming!
Pro #2 – it cleans under furniture. Our Eufy is less than 3 inches tall. Its slim design allows it to easily clean under most furniture, like beds, chairs, and couches. Now these hard to reach spots are dust-free!
Pro #3 – it cleans REALLY well. As evidenced by the picture of the dustbin above, the cleaning power on this thing is pretty awesome. We are constantly wondering where it finds all the dust! Even though our house looks clean, the robot vacuum makes it even cleaner.
Con #1 – it only cleans the floors. Like we said earlier, we still use our regular vacuum once a week. A robot vacuum obviously can’t vacuum your furniture, baseboards, surfaces, or spaces where it can’t fit.
Con #2 – it vacuums everything in its path. A robot vacuum works best in a home with minimal clutter. Its sensors prevent it from bumping into furniture or vacuuming up things it shouldn’t, but beware of smaller items like phone charger cords! We make sure to tuck ours away beforehand. We also block off our fireplace so it doesn’t wander in there and get all sooty.
Con #3 – price. We were fortunate to get our Eufy for under $200 by using a coupon code and choosing a model without the mapping feature (we do NOT feel like we sacrificed the cleaning quality AT ALL by getting a less expensive one). Depending on what you’re looking for, it’s easy to spend double what we paid. Some cost more than $1K.
Ultimately, all of the pros far outweighed the cons for us. It saves us valuable time, energy, and lets us enjoy our (clean) home more. If you’re a pet owner, parent, or just a regular person looking for some help with cleaning, do yourself a favor and consider getting a robot vacuum! This post is NOT sponsored, we just genuinely love this vacuum and wanted to share it with you. For more cleaning tips, check out our post about how we clean and protect our hardwood floors.
